Astrology

Through the birth date of a person an astrology chart is calculated. This birth chart can give a very accurate description of the personality of the person. By comparing the location of where the planets will be in the future to where the planets where when a person was born an idea of what the future will hold may be understood.

Most people know their sun sign, which they use to look at their horoscope in the local newspaper. There is much more to astrology. You have a sign for the sun, for the moon, and for each planet. All of these, along with much else is calculated to create a full birth chart.

Below is an example of a birth chart

The chart is first made by dividing a circle into 12 sections. These are called Houses. In the example you can see the small numbers 1-12 located towards the center of the circle. This indicates what number that house is. Each house represents one of the 12 zodiac signs in order. The area of life connected with each house corresponds with the Zodiac sign of that house. For example, the second house is Taurus (Taurus is the second sign in the zodiac) so all planets that fall in the second house are then influenced by Taurus.

Using an Ephemeris, an astrology book, you can find out the location of each planet on a specific date. The Ephemeris will tell you what Zodiac sign the planet is located in and the exact degrees it is in (each house has 30 degrees in it since 12/360=30). To do a chart you must look up the location of each planet on the specific date. You must also find out the Ascendant or Rising sign. This is the Zodiac sign that was rising over the eastern horizon at that specific time. An exact time is preferred to find this.

Once you have the location of all the planets and the ascendant, draw out the circle with the 12 houses. House 1 now becomes the same sign as the ascendant. Each house after that is then labeled with the Zodiac sign that is next in order. In the example the ascendant is Scorpio (the M shape with an arrow on the last leg of the M). In the order of the Zodiac the next sign is Sagittarius, therefore the next house is labeled as Sagittarius (the arrow with a line drawn through it). The next sign is Capricorn , then Aquarius , and so on until all 12 houses have been labeled. Once you have this done it is time to place each planet in its house. In the example, the Moon‚ is in 10 degrees 23’ 51” Scorpio . So you would place the Symbol for the moon in the first house of Scorpio. Continue to place each planet (and the sun) in it’s house. Once you have all the planets in place you can look for particular angles between planets. The most common angles are 0, 45, 90, or 180. Each angle creates a certain way of those two planets interacting. To fully interpret the chart you will need to find an Astrologer or study over various books.

Astrology can be very useful for many things. It can be used for self-awareness. It can help you find who you were in past lives, what your path in life is, how you relate to others, and help you plan for the future.
